Nachdem ich schon 1979 die Eröffnung des Café „Tuc Tuc“ miterlebt hatte, wurde ich bald Stammgast und Teil des Kollektivs dort. Das Café entwickelte sich schnell zum neuen Zentrum eines wichtigen Teils der Hamburger Schwulenbewegung; zum Ort, der schwule Emanzipation, Kultur, Politik und schwules Leben zusammenbrachte und stärkte. Hier trafen sich u.a. alle, die Schwulsein als kulturelle Ausdrucksform sahen und nutzten, wofür das „Tuc Tuc“ u.a. mit seiner Bühne einen guten Rahmen bot: Schwule Veranstaltungen aller Art wie Ausstellungen, Theater, Tanzgruppen, Live-Musik bis hin zum 1. Ham-burger Tuntenchor präsentierten wir hier einem gemischten Publikum. Diese Aufbruchsstimmung voller Kreativität und Vielfalt miterlebt zu haben, hat mich stark geprägt und entsprach dem, was ich damals gesucht hatte.

In 1979 I witnessed the opening of the café „Tuc Tuc“ (then still visiting from Kiel) and soon I would become a regular guest there as well as part of the collective. Since its beginning the café was the new centre of an important part of the gay scene. The café became a gay place to ensure and empower gay emancipation, culture, politics and life. Here, among others, those men met who saw and used their being gay as a form of expressing themselves. For that the café provided a splendid framework, e.g. with its stage. Gay events, theatre, live music, dance groups, disco nights and, not least of all, the first Hamburg “Tuntenchor“ (gay choir). I experienced and was part of such a pioneering spirit full of creativity and diversity which shaped my life. Also, it was exactly what I had been looking for.
