Nirgendwo anders als in meinem Job wird mir Tag für Tag bewusst, dass ich schwul bin und die meisten anderen nicht. Mittlerweile arbeite ich 30 Jahre lang beim NDR. Viele Kolleg*innen sind Freund*innen geworden, ehemalige Hater Kolleg*innen. In diesen Büros und Studios wurde ich am stärksten mit Phobien anderer konfrontiert und musste die intensivsten Kämpfe austragen, was meine schwule Identität angeht. Der Aufwand hat sich gelohnt. Letztlich habe ich mir nämlich auch genau hier den größten Respekt erarbeitet.

Nowhere else than in my job do I realize on a daily basis that I am gay and most of the others are not. I have been working at the NDR (radio station for the northern part of Germany) for 30 years now. Many colleagues have become friends, former haters have become colleagues. In these offices and studios I have been confronted with other people’s phobias and had to fight severe battles as regards to my gay identity. It was worth the effort, though, because, after all, I gained the most respect right here.
