Das Café Gnosa war neben dem Buchladen „Männerschwarm“ mein zweiter schwuler Anlaufpunkt in Hamburg, den ich schon von Kiel, meiner Heimatstadt, aus in den späten 80er Jahren zur Coming-Out-Zeit angesteuert habe. Der Buchladen ist leider Geschichte, aber das Gnosa ist nach wie vor das beste (und einzig nennenswerte) schwule Café in meiner Wahlheimat. Mein erster Besuch dort – begleitet von einem Freund, denn allein traute ich mich nicht – war spannend: So viele schwule Männer an einem Ort hatte ich bis dato nicht gesehen, die Atmosphäre war (zumindest für mich) sehr erotisch aufgeladen und zudem gab’s lecker Kaffee und Kuchen – eine unschlagbare Kombination.
Heute gehe ich weniger aufgeregt, aber immer noch gern ins Gnosa. Für mich ist es ein schönes Stück Erinnerung an frühere Zeiten und obwohl es nun ein touristischer Ort für alle geworden ist, empfinde ich es immer noch als ein Safe und Special Space für Schwule.
Beside the gay bookstore “Männerschwarm“, the coffee place “Gnosa“ was my second go-to place in Hamburg in the late 80ies during my coming-out, even while I still lived in Kiel. Unfortunately, the bookshop is history now but the Gnosa ist still the best (and only noteworthy) gay coffee place in Hamburg. My first visit there (I was accompanied by a friend because I literally was too afraid to go alone) was exciting: never had I seen so many gay men in one room, the atmosphere was full of sexual tension (at least for me) and hey, there was also delicious coffee and cake – an unbeatable combination.
Today I visit the Gnosa less excitedly but I still like to go there. To me it is a wonderful trip down memory lane and and despite it being open for everyone now as a tourist destination, it still is a safe and special place for gay men.
